Over the centuries they migrated west and now reside mostly in Europe. The Roma people or Romani (gypsy has a negative connotation) are commonly nomadic and have traveled and lived in diverse lands; India, Turkey, North Africa, the Middle East and in Europe as far as Spain. There has always been a mystique about the strange nomads from distant lands. They also suffered persecution and poverty. They are often tradesmen and entertainers but more widely known as musicians. Their music is varied and rich, having assimilated influences from all the cultures they have inhabited. For instance you can hear Klezmer, influence and Spanish flamenco is largely considered a variant of Romani. What instruments they favor is largely a matter of region. This adaptability has resulted in the Romani sometimes saving traditional music from extinction. Through all of it, they strive to maintained their own unique culture and musical heritage. One of the largest concentrations of Romani people is in Romania. This music speaks to Chloe's artistic, impulsive and passionate sprit.
